Camp Bar in Tosa makes for a really cool location for an engagement session. Thankfully I had Alec and Sabrina to share their very meaningful and favorite spot with me. Camp Bar is their neighborhood bar and is where they had their first date. It was the perfect way to come full circle for their portrait session. After a round of old-fashioneds we headed over to the nearby Menomonee River Parkway to round out the photoshoot. These two have the cutest way with each other and were simply a dream to photograph.

Nick and Robyn chose Trimborn Farm, just outside of Milwaukee in Greendale, for the location of their engagement session. Trimborn Farm is a historic property that dates back to the 1840s. The buildings on site give way to many beautiful backdrops that make this location incredibly versatile for an elegant or more casual photo session. These two are such a beautiful couple they really made my job a breeze!
PSA: If you are interested in having your photo session or event on the grounds you must make an appointment as caretakers live on the property.

Megan and Ed chose the most magical place for their spring engagement photos, the Boerner Botanical Gardens. We strolled around the gardens stopping frequently to make use of the the beautiful blooms and perfectly designed grounds. For all of you interested in having film photography used in your session or wedding every image in this post was shot on film – it’s my favorite photography medium.

Ami + Geoff’s wedding is just around the corner and I wanted to share their gorgeous engagement photos with the world! We started our photoshoot at The Outsider (9th floor of Kimpton Journeyman Hotel) for some champagne soaked cheers. (Bubbly for everyone!) Don’t you love how they look at one another!? After we made it to the bottom of the sparkly, we headed down to Bayview for some seasonal shots with their pup Wu Tang. That little Shar-Pei is the darn stinking cutest thing I have ever seen, and lucky for me I get to see him again at the wedding. Seriously, I think I have the greatest job. I get to photograph brides, grooms, and puppies! For now take this engagement session as a sneak peek for all the beauty that their wedding day is going to bring this blog.

Allie and Brad’s wedding day is coming right up, and I am so excited to have them in front of my camera again! We had a really hard time deciding on a more natural or urban setting for their engagement session, so we settled on the best alternative – the RiverWalk and Walker’s Point at sunset. No amount of scouting can prepare one for the always changing lighting conditions on any particular day, but it does help photographers familiarize themselves with the location. This is why I truly love photographing a ‘walking tour engagement session’ (as I call it), because it provides multiple opportunities to find the best light, location, and get to know the newly engaged! The three of us had a grand time exploring the RiverWalk in the Third Ward and the Menomonee River in Walker’s Point near the Haley-Davidson Museum. Now I just have to anxiously await the adventures ahead of us on their big day!

I just loved photographing Michael and Laura for their Walker’s Point engagement session. Laura told me they wanted a urban setting for their session, and let me choose wherever I thought would be best. Yes! I love that kind of trust. I knew I wanted to go on a walking tour of the northern section of Walker’s Point in Milwaukee. Michael goes to school out of state so we had only a few dates to make this work, and thank goodness the weather happily cooperated! We chased the sun west of where we started our session as we chatted about their wedding plans and the best places to eat. I can’t wait for their spring wedding at Lake Park…if it’s half as fun as this session then it’s going to be a great time!

Erin and Aaron are planning their wedding from across the country, and wanted their engagement session to be in one of their favorite Wisconsin forests. They chose to have their Kettle Moraine engagement session early in the morning to capitalize on the soft light and so that they could spend their time in the midwest with their families – as they only had a few days to organize many of their wedding plans while in town! Both Erin and Aaron are avid distance runners and it’s no coincidence that we chose this gorgeous trail to highlight their affection for the outdoors. Take a look and see the beauty these two brought to the trail!

Sometimes the things we want just don’t work out. Thomas and Emily really wanted a snowy winter engagement shoot…but mother nature had other ideas and our initial lakefront winter engagement session was scraped. After 8 weeks of snow dances we decided to call it and go with a grey monotone theme instead. I’ve always loved the large rocks at the edge of where Lake Michigan meets Milwaukee, and we decided to tempt the wintry waves with our presence. To really play up the grey apparel and starkness of late February I chose to shoot mostly with a high speed black and white film for effect. Of course I had to bring out some color film to play up the bold coral lip Emily had on with the rosy/orange tones of the granite and the blue sky contrasting perfectly. Thomas and Emily made the best of their less than ideal engagement session, and quite frankly I love thinking outside of the box and creating one of a kind imagery for my one of a kind couples.

Cassie and Chris suggested having their engagement session in their very own backyard in Mequon, Wisconsin, and of course I was beyond excited. Seeing my couples comfortable in their element makes for a breezy session, and as a bonus Audi got to play a large role in her mom’s (and new dad’s) engagement session. I must admit I love having pets make a cameo in engagement and wedding photos, they are a part of the family after all. Cassie incorporated their upcoming wedding colors into their shoot – pink and teal for the win! That personalized pop of color really added a little something special to the neutral winter background. Scroll on to see the cuteness below!

Boy oh boy! Wisconsin sure has some incredible gems, and I’m not just talking about Lauren and Joe. Kohler Andrae State Park has rolling sand dunes, Lake Michigan views, a quaint boardwalk, beautiful beaches, and more! It was truly the perfect location for this adorable couple’s engagement session. We had so much fun walking the boardwalk and frolicking at the lake’s edge just as the sun was getting low in the sky. Now I just have to wait until next summer to capture their wedding day magic on film!
